Why Choose Us?
Seeking a Taxidermist? Do your research!
What is their tanning process?
-
Every piece from Buck Yeah! Taxidermy is commercially tanned. Commercial tanning is a key factor to the longevity of taxidermy.
Where do they source their products?
-
We source our mannequins and supplies from reputable taxidermy suppliers who produce commercial and competition grade products.
What is their turnaround time?
-
Quality taxidermy takes time. Our average turnaround time is 10-12 months from drop off for shoulder mounts, pedestal mounts, and life-size mounts; but it is project dependent. Our turnaround time for European mounts is 3-4 months.
-
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you find someone who offers a very short turnaround time, you are likely sacrificing quality.
Mounting techniques
-
We utilize competition mounting techniques to set our work apart, for example:
-
Bur to Bur incision (minimizing seams)
-
Removing ear cartilage for crisp, life-like ears
-
Unique nose pad nodules specific to each mammal
-
Anatomically correct poses

European Mount Skull Cleaning

Our Method:
We use various methods for skull cleaning. It is project dependent but generally we either use a water submersion process or we use our Dermestid Beetles. The beetles remove flesh from the skull very gently. Both of our methods preserve the durability of the skull. All of our skulls go through a detailed degreasing process, which is what cleans and begins to whiten the bone. The skull then goes through a peroxide whitening process for a final finish. Finally, we seal the antlers with a UV protected layer, which preserves the natural colors of the antlers.
DIY Method:
Q: Can I do my own European mount?
A: Of course you can. However, it’s important to note that many of the DIY methods online are more prone to produce mediocre results. Most DIY European mounts utilize a skull boiling process. But this method can cause the skull to become brittle and crack, especially the nasal cavity bones. With DIY methods, you will notice they typically have a yellowed and greasy appearance.
We accept fresh or frozen skulls. Rotten skulls will not be accepted into the shop.
With years of experience in European mounts, we are able to provide a showroom quality mount.
